weighty ghosts

the river continues to flow but soon will be frozen over.
that is when the riverghosts return
a ghost just needs a home......
this song has haunted me for three days as I have tried and tried to write a story which just doesnt seem to be ready to come out of me....
just have to be patient.....

lovely mouthy I-C woman... the name of the band is Wintersleep, from Nova Scotia Canada. I saw them perform last winter during the east coast music awards... this song has an Arcade Fire feel to it, don't you think?

i'll keep plugging away on the story....I'm struggling with a cold right now, so it may that my head is clogged too much to think creatively.

Just wanted to let you know...I cut a part of your last post to use with my students, Hope you don't mind. This is so good. I just had to take advantage of it for my class on Personal Development. I will let you know what the men think.

"Our behaviour is our best attempt at the given time to fulfill one of 5 basic needs....survival, love and belonging, empowerment/control, freedom and/or fun.

What impacts our behaviour is how we think and how we feel.........about ourselves, about others in our lives, about the situation we find ourselves in, about what life has served up.

Past experiences trigger reactions

Past experiences thrust us into the familiar dance steps

Past experiences shroud us from new perspectives, from a new way of seeing.

Old wounds refreshed and uncared for seep into the present and are revealed in the kind of decisions we make

Life can leave us with two scraped knees and a dislocated soul can't it? It's safer to stay under the covers sound asleep or numbed by vices, disconnected to the rest of the world. Thats the choice.........to remain asleep and safe or to be self-medicated or to be wide awake and vulnerably out there giving it our best....

Action never happens without a thread to thought or feelings.

It was perfect for the topic I was teaching on today, "Self-Control" went nicely with everything and the men liked it. I was wondering if you minded because of copy rights and all, but it was just so perfect...I took the risk. :) You think a lot like me and sometimes I am blown away by the similarities in our thougths. You bless me so much, keep thinking and keep writing, I like it a lot! :)

m2p...i'm happy you asked. my cousin just recently used my story of the crooked little tree in her Grade 8 class to start a conversation about discrimination. Its also been read in a church congregation workshop that a friend of mine was running....on community development.

I spent time with a teenage mom yesterday. her baby was only 2 months old....the two of them have bonded beautifully. one of the big issues in her life right now is that her mother reacted to the whole event with a lot of anger (she had been there before....it was obvious there was big unresolved stuff there). It is getting better. What I learned quickly about this teen mom was how intuitive and emotionally intelligent she was.... so part of our conversation..... I explained this part of Glasser's theory to her..... and asked her why she thought her mom was over the top reacting....

Big light bulbs went on! "THAT makes perfect sense!!" she said.

it was a twofold teachable moment...awareness for her own choices and awareness of her moms behaviour.

Self control.....good topic to think about myself for a future workshop.

glad it helped.

m2p? YOu may want to google more info on William Glasser's Choice theory. There are one week courses on the basics of reality therapy....it can lead to a certification as a reality therapist. His headquarters is in Calif, but he travels a lot...has been embraced both in North America and the UK. Ireland too.

He has done a lot of work on mediating, solutions processes, on critical thinking, and a whole bunch of work on Quality Schools. I would think that he has done work in the prison system too.

it's a great song.....however it has most definately wormed it was into the recesses of my jukebox brain and I must exorcise it soon! Good thing christmas hymns and music will begin playing soon in my house. that will do the trick!
