we are not afraid.

Two links I would like to share. I tried to post it right here, but have had no luck.

So.......

Please take in this speech. It leaves me with shivers of hopeful inspiration. Here is the link

Then, hear it in harmonious inspiration....... and sing along. Let the hymn breathe with you as it should wherever you are and however this finds you tonight.

We are not afraid.......we are not afraid....
We shall overcome someday.

shalom.

I have ALWAYS found this inspiring! Dr, King had such a way of expressing himself....And the first time I heard the song was back in 1963 in the Spring....Pete Seeger sang it at a Concert at UCLA's Royce Hall....and inspired all of us in "SPOON RIVER"...so much so, that the 6 of us sang it while holding hands before every performance we did of SPOON RIVER, from then on!
Then of course, The March On Washington, that August, encomposed so much inspiration and seeing the thousands and thousands of people on the Mall, singing this song...Well, it was inspiring and deeply mving, too!

"WE ARE NOT AFRAID....." Indeed!

Naomi.....thank you for sharing that....I can picture you all singing with such emotional unity.

I also listened to Mahalia Jackson sing it on Youtube....it was amazing.

You may be interested in listening to Springsteen's CD where he sings Pete Seeger songs. I love the CD and from beginning to end.

m2p....it did seem apt, given the election in your country. The fact that Colin Powell came out to endorse Ombama yesterday was such a boost eh?

I was also thinking of my friend Paul, who is travelling through the occupied territories this week with a group....to see for themselves the level of oppressive discord and violence. I find that there are so many miserable pockets of human suffering in this world, as it always seems to be that some inspirational words may help.

I also read an article in the national paper on the weekend which tore me up......on rape and how it is used as a war tactic in some African nations. The stories havent left me....

we shall overcome.....how? I don't know, but I believe we need to remain involved, aware, active and demanding.

What a double dose of inspiration! Dr. King's words remain powerful and moving with every passing year. Peace and love, JP/deb
