Ann's Gaffe?

Looks like conservatrix Ann Coulter has crossed the line with her blasphemously rude utterances. And, we should be surprised? When someone conducts themselves by continously espousing meanness, the nasty meter also continues to go up and up and up.

Speaking Friday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., Coulter closed her remarks with: “I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I -- so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.” Audience members appeared startled, then many clapped, and she opened the floor to questions. The event was carried on C-SPAN. Many newspapers, including The New York Times, covered the event but failed to mention the Coulter slur at first.

It boggles my mind that this woman is invited to speak anywhere, let alone where there are microphones. Name calling bigotry is completely unacceptable to most, and yet Coulter seems to get away with her book selling, news headline tactics. Her book was a bestseller. Some even read it. Some even liked it.

Some applauded her at the CPAC conference.........

There's a difference this time. Well respected Republicans are moving FAR away from her. They are speaking out, almost apologizing on behalf of their political for Coulter's slanderous skank mouth, most definately disconnecting from her. Fewer and fewer will be accepting invitations to take part in political forums and panels with her. Guiliani........McCain.......we will see more come forward denouncing Coulters cutting comments. GOOD! It's about bloody time.

Wit, debate, sparring with words all done respectfully is acceptable in the political ring. Using bully words simply is an easy anger based method that will never wash with me.

The change in the air around Coulter? Methinks she just helped out her Democratic enemy real good. It'll be interesting to see if her invitations dry up........

Silly cow springs to mind! are these bigots for real!?

I myself cannot stand Ann Coulter. However, I do realize that she says these things because it is what pays the bills. She provides the voice for so many of the thoughts that many of her peers think, but never say.

She's a sad example of conservative politics...as well as a sad example of a Christian (which she claims to be).

Y'know I'm a conservative guy and thought I'd enjoy Coulter, then I read one of her books. It's vile stuff on par with anything the hateful side of the Far-Left can dish out. She does zero to help conservatives or traditionalists because of her constant tactics of name calling. Somewhere in the vile are some gems but it's too much work to get past the vitriol.

I have avoided writing about her, because I didn't want to give her publicity. This is not the worst thing she's said about someone else. I think she's a mean-spirited bigot and I'm always surprised that people will pay money to hear her speak or that people will buy her books. What does that say about the state of American society when someone like her has so much press?

I've never heard of her before this. I guess I am one of the lucky ones and have no interest in reading such close-minded giberish.
Maybe I am too liberal for her. Sure I believe in some things traditional however I also must believe that having an open mind is what moves society forward. If we all wanted to keep things as they were we'd still be living in caves.

I am saddened by Coulter's meanness. It reminds me that today's world can be a nasty place, and that nastiness is so often rewarded with ill-earned success.

Like you, I hope this turns into a tipping point of sorts. It's time the world reclaimed its hold on goodness - and exposed the hate-mongers like Coulter for the scum that they are.

Hell, even extreme right-wingers should be looking at her with revulsion. This is way beyond politics, and she's way beyond honest political discourse.

You're only now getting around to thinking Coulter crossed the line? What have you been smoking? Ann Coulter has been for years just as she is now; a vile, disingenuous, venimous, idiot. Anyone who gives credence to her slanderous gutter talk is a gullible fool. She has never had anything "balanced" to say. She makes Tucker Carlson look fair and balanced. I woldn't feel sorry for her if she choked to death on her own bile.

She is digging her own grave, I hope.

paul....I had a heck of a time writing this piece while trying to avoid some personalized attack words......they are always the first to come to mind and there are many when I think of Coulter's rude behaviour. She's more than a silly cow! :)

hi dustin.....good point. She is a voice for many. To quote Thumper from Bambi...."If you don't have nuthin' nice to say, don't say nuthin' at all."

Spinks....we are on the same tory road. Your comments reflect my own. It is vile stuff. When there are so many wonderfully written critiques and essays and theory and historical books to be read, why spend time filtering through the muck to get to the gems?

Tara.....I wrote a post about her last summer when her latest tomb was launched basically stating the same, and did question whether or not to write about her again. Her arrogant behaviour just pisses me off to know end, that I found the urge to let er rip again..... :) What does it tell us about society? Good question. It seems to me that Coulter has the "whole marketing package" from her physical attractiveness to her intelligence to her ability to stoke the fires.......the media laps it up.........she's also "originally different" than the stereotypical extreme right winger and the camera loves her. Society seems to think this is all important stuff. GROSS!

Hey Sunny.......you're not missing a whole heck of a lot. But, if you want to learn more, the internet is FULL of editorials about her and written by her.

Carmi.....yes, let's hope its a tipping point. I do believe we will see more right wingers back away from her. They may not come forward publicly, but they know her appearance or "connection" to them wont win them some votes.

hey Web..........No. I havent just jumped on the bandwagon. I have written about her in the past, and have always felt the same about this woman. However, I felt compelled to write again because of her disgusting comments about Edwards. As far as I'm concerned, she crossed the line in my books AGES ago.

judy.......let's hope. I'm so sick of the negativity in politics. If we want to see change and if we want integrity to return to our political halls, we need big changes......one of them is to get rid of the commentator riffraff filling airtime.

When I heard this I thought someone was either joking or exaggerating - why was I surprised? I don't know. But I love the name you gave her, it fits well: conservatrix

I think she has made a cold blooded business decision. There is a market for this brand of viciousness, and she is going to be the one that fills the niche.

I used to think that there was a level of irony or self mockery in her statements, as when she commented that Canadians were "lucky" that the US agrees to "share the continent" with us. But with her vile remarks about the 9/11 widows, I think I realized that she is feeding an ever diminishing number of fans addicted to cheap rage. And like any addiction, rage needs strong and stronger hits to sustain itself.

Layla.......thought the name was apt.

Balbulican....you have nailed it with aplomb!! My sentiments exactly.....there is a niche and she's a fillin' it to the best of her business ability. I like your analogy. It does look like she just keeps upping the ante to provide a "fix."

She's stirring the pot and creating controversy. Controversey sells and given how much money she makes in selling her books something tells me he comments will not be coming to any end.

PS to Dustin-- She's not a representative of Conservatives, she's the representative of the worst fringe of the most conservartive branch of the Republican party.

Many Republicans, self included, just dismiss her out of hand. If Pat Robertson is the "crazy old uncle" that no one in the party takes seriously. Coulter is the feisty but harmless schoolmarm.

Neither Robertson nor Coulter are representative of the Republican party. Their representative of the far right fringe... Many of us in the Republican party kind of groan when she says this stuff because it does make the rest of us look bad... Kind of like when Michael Moore says some rather abhorrent things about conservatives and Republicans, I'm sure there are certain Democrats and Liberals who cringe because he makes the rest look bad.

Most Americans are in the middle, not on the fringe. Unfortunately, it seems, the further on the fringe you are, the more vocal you are.

Time to examine the hypocrisy of both the left and the homosexuals.

I have a smoking gun that'll make you question whether you loathe Ms. Coulter or the left/homosexual militants more.

These folks use "faggot" all the time and get away with it. They allow all sorts of folks to use the word. But...

It's clearly only a bad thing when a conservative, particularly a devout Christian, uses the word.

Get some perspective on reality, folks. Get the facts and quit slamming Ann, unless you also slam the bigoted left and the fascistic homosexuals.

My post is:

http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2007/03/left-homosexuals-practice-double.html

The more I see such hypocrisy and double standards, the more I become more conservative... and the closer I become drawn to God (but that's another story...).

I want nothing to do with the hard left. They're destroying Free World civilization and bullying all kinds of folks they don't like or who say things they claim to find offensive.

Oh, hi there, Awareness! That's just me standing up for the truth and for social justice. Seriously. It's the warrior side of me...
