Courting Bravado

Last night I stepped outside away from the chatter of friends and into the silence of the clear country air.

The moon, a day past full was suspended just above the pine treetops wrapped in wispy comforting clouds while it illuminated an indigo sky.

Impressive in it's swagger.

It's rays filtered down projecting my shadow.

My tiny human shadow.

Wow I thought, such strength shining up there alone.

I felt humbled. I felt exposed by it's presense.

Crowsfeet crevices that harbour secret wishes exposed by nature's spotlight.

I looked for the stars, but they seemed diminshed........unable to compete with the munificence of the broadfaced bold moon.

Where did the stars disappear to?

We know better. Stars don't diminish.

I turned my back on the moon and looked up to the sky again.

A million team of stars winked back at me from a galaxy that allows a moon courting bravado to think it's the big cheese every once in a while.

That's the secret...............................

That is very cool... very cool. Thanks for sharing it. It may well be just what I needed, and I didn't even know anything was missing!

Why thank you Mike.

I was struck last night with more ethereal thoughts at first and tried to write a poem. The results were atrociously maudlin. This afternoon, while I tried to alter the poem from a different perspective on the moon and what I was really feeling, I decided to write it out this way........

I had no idea if I had translated my thoughts properly. Thank you for your feedback. It's affirming.

Very nicely done, with a great picture to match.

Yes, every once in awhile, some things need to outshine their companions to prove their existance... the moon is no exception. It's all a matter of perspectives and timing.

thank you Layla.....

Thank you Ellen...... you know what I find interesting? In my mind, the moon is always male!

Lovely writing, and lovely pic of the moon.

Must've been some good merlot of which you were partaking... it helps the words flow freely... ;)

The sun? She's a flameco dancer.

Good morning Sentinel.....

We were posting at the same time.

Merlot? Hmmmmmmm I was initially and the words were all soppy. I ended up writing it clear headed on Sunday afternoon. The right words arrived while driving to the store!!

Very beautiful! It is interesting and humbling isn't it? The Man in the Moon may be why we usually consider the moon male although in earlier times it was always a she in many societies. The idea of it being made of cheese is still my favorite and although the U.S. claims that it is not I still like to think of a whole lot of happy mice living up there! The moon always makes me feel happy and relaxed. The full harvest moon is still my favorite: hanging huge and low to the ground like it will fall into the lake at a moment's notice. The reflection so bright you needn't turn on a light to shine the way. There is something magical about the moon but it must have always been for man (or woman if we want to be precise).

Rainbow....I love the pic too. I was trying to find a photo, but then came across this one and loved the colours

Harbour....the earth? She's Agnes Browne, an Irish Catholic widow who is doing the best that she can to look after her kids, pay the bills and work a fruit and vegie stall with her best friend. She a tad rough around the edges, expressing herself deeply and openly. No qualms about that. Throughout all the trials and tribulations of her life .......and abuse and lack of respect shovelled her way by her ungrateful children, she maintains a terrific sense of humour, and loyalty to her faith, family and friends. She tells it like it is, and isn't afraid to let off some steam every now and then. She's too busy to really attend church, so whenever she passes by the local cathedral during mass, she opens the big door and says hello to God and carries on.....busy looking after everyone....helping God to his work. Have you read Brendan O'Carroll's The Mammy? It's a trilogy based on Agnes Browne's life. :)

Honest to God, she is the person who clearly arose in my head when I read your question. Planet Earth is Agnes Browne.

Sunny.........I love the Harvest moon too. When it sits over the Saint John River, it looks surreal in it's size.........beautiful.

Harbour.......thank you. You have made my day. And believe me, I needed a nice peck on the forehead.
Now.......to figure out how my musings can become my bread and butter.....hmmmmmmmmmm.........

Ditto what harbor said! I rather like your take on the earth being Agnes Brown... I feel like I know her soooo well.
