An invitation

"Come to me, all of you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls."

The weather worn man whose voices trip him into believing he will be safe and warm under the bridge on a January night.
The woman who lives alone in her apartment and can't find the bravery to leave it
The young child who wills herself to sleep while listening to the screaming tirades of hate coming from the family room.
The old woman lost in dementia, forgotten on the 4th floor of a beige hospital wing.
The heartbroken father whose making a new life on the outskirts of town.
The overtired, worn out new parents of a colic baby whose crampy belly makes her wail all night long

The stressed out business owner who is trying his best to keep all of his employees working through a recession
The mom with a chronically ill child.
The poverty trampled family living in that shack with no running water or electricity.
The orphan whose parents have died of AIDS.
The addict whose desperately searching for the next fix.
The runaway teen whose turning tricks to find illusionary love.

The invitation is for them.

The abused, neglected, addicted, disabled, sick, tired, mentally ill, .....the fearful.

The lonely souls lost in the sea of humanity.
The lover yearning for the heartache to go away
The workers with young families to feed who have been laid off at the mill.
The survivors of a hurricane, tsunami, drought, earthquake....
The human beings living the waking nightmare of war, trying to stay alive.

He sends the unconditional invitation to everyone.......shouldn't we go and do likewise?

Hope feeds the hungry soul. Faith sustains it. Humanity passes it on.

BEAUTIFUL! Truly, Beautiful....I love this. It makes me think of the words on The Statue Of Liberty, in a way, you know? The Hope that is implicit in those words as there is so much Hope in the words you quoted here!

robert....do you know the words to that song........it only takes a spark to keep the fire going? It's one of my favourite chapel/campfire songs. I love the quote youve shared here. Can we make a pact to help one another just find the bread? It would be a good start.

ps. it was wonderful to see your smiling beautiful pic Robert. :)

Naomi. I will most definately scroll back into your archives to read some of your stories. I too jump around from one thought to another.....it's one of the things I like about blogging....whatever my fancy is, I'll go with it.

The words do sound like the same ones on the Statue of Liberty...it's definately the same message isn't it? I read it to my husband tonight and we decided it would be wonderful to have it inscribed above the door to the local soup kitchen where he volunteers.

Beautiful writing I think hope keeps us all alive and I wish for peace of all these souls.
I was once the mum with the colic baby and didn't sleep one night for 3 years, but you just move on knowing it'll be all right one day.

Hi Marja.....I find it amazing that there are so many in our society who simply don't see the people who are broken and struggling. It's like they are invisible.
then there are the folks who quietly take it all in and help carry the burdens for some and no one knows about it.

I met with a woman the other day who volunteers an unbelievable amount of her time on the streets with the homeless, at the shelter and through the methadone clinic. She is doing the job of many....for free!! Her volunteer work has been recognized, but there is something very deep in her that allows her to give so much of herself and her time. I bet she knows the name of every single homeless person in the area......and you know what? We all should.

ps. My kids weren't colic thank God, but they were terrible at sleeping through the night. My sleep patterns have never recovered!

Wow, what a powerful post! Your writing has intense visuals and the words are so powerful! And I love that scripture verse in Matthew!
