hmmmmmm, i wonder..........

Yesterday, I went for a walk in the woods on my friend's property to do some tipping of evergreen. After I had a bundle of pine, spruce and cedar.........enough to make a big wreath for the front of my house and a garland for the railing of my back deck, I sat on this rock to listen to the peace in the trees. What I heard was the choir of life. All around me.........music from my memory sounding like the soundtrack from the movie The Mission. It fit the moment.

I love how our musical memories exist as our own life score.

And as the choir continued to keep my peace company, I began to think that soon, the little brook will be iced over, the path will be erased and the boughs will be covered in snow. Dormant life, but never silent.....never dead. It made me wonder if winter is the most productive season of all, when the gestational pull of a dream grows in hibernation.

Perhaps, I thought, perhaps dreams need to lay dormant so that they can turn from an outward illusion to an inward vision to be awakened in the spring? Then, I thought..........perhaps my dream needs another winter to be able to blossom and bear fruit...........?

I stood up, feeling hopeful and excited about the pending winter months. I called the dogs to join me for the trek back to the house beyond the barn . My arms were full of sweet smelling pine and my heart was awakened by my new idea. I somehow felt lighter.

Dreams is this week's prompt for Writer's Island. Check out the others.

This is lovely. The imagery of our dreams lying dormant like the winter is beautiful... I will let these thoughts sink in with the music of your writing and images... Thank you!

Each day of our lives we are living with dreams, within dreams.

Thanks for making me think...

This was real. A very warm, very human piece... wonderfully hopeful.

The imagery and scents put me there, in your trek -- I loved it!

I hope all your dreams always come true Dana. Judging by your glorious photos, you live in a very magical part of the world.

so much unseen goes on during the winter - as vital and life giving as all the other seasons...
can smell that pine from here.. :)

Superb really, I never thought of winter along these lines and now that I will, it makes the next few months seem so much more attractive, thanks for putting this wonderful thought in my head, beautifully represented. Thank you.

heschel once prayed, in one of those mystic conversations with the almighty, that he never once asked asked for success, only wonder, and we tears in his eyes he whispered.....'and you gave it to me'

i wonder indeed.....

lea...thank you. love it when a thought just happens all on its own.
prats...perhaps we are in different hemispheres? Winter is definately on its way here. :)

gautami.......can't imagine a day without a bit of dreamin'

rob....thank you for the feedback. It's very helpful. it's what i wanted to do.....to write a piece that felt real about dreaming :)

gypsy.......I was actually thinking the same thing while driving to my friend's house. even though its November, I was struck by the beauty of the area, and actually drummed up a couple of tourism slogans in my head! I plan to write a piece about New Brunswick sometime this week. It is a little province who is ignored.....but it is a little gem.

katie....i find my writing, expecially any attempts at poetry seem to be more plausible in the winter. Stewing and reflecting at this time of year helps the creative juices....mine at least.

ul...welcome.......I hadn't either actually. So, the little blip of awareness really did make me feel more buoyant and open to the long cold winter. snow is in the air today....it's a comin'

paisley....I think so. I think most people who reach the autumn in their lives reflect a great deal.....they have much potential to create from that. Mary Wesley, the author is a great example of this. She didn't write her first novel until she was in her late 60's. Then, she churned out one beauty after another. I loved her writing.....and read all of her books.

jadey...thank you. glad you stopped by

Paul....when I find myself in a moment of wonder....wondering what if, or wondering about, or simply in awe of wonder, I feel the most alive. Wonder allows you to transport yourself to destinations known and unknown.
Heschel and you,... oh and Billy Joel at my Thanksgiving table. Yes....mystic musing to music.

tumblewords....thank you. the serenity felt during my walk in the woods always provides both calm and wonder for me.

Today has been such a busy day. You know the kind where you are running all day just to stay even with the day and with life, doing the necessary stuff that life requires of each of us, and then I took some time to visit. Ah, I'm so glad I did! Thank you for making it possible to catch my breath!
