Freedom expressed through love

I want to share this with you. It blew me away.

"I am not free if I am taking away someone else's freedom, just as surely as I am not free when my freedom is taken from me.... To be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others." Nelson Mandela.

I have seen this duo before and incredibly stuck by them each time. It makes me want to scream on the highest hill- now THIS is what life is about!!!

Thinking of you Dana.

Deb, Tori and Gypsy.....it's SOOOO powerful, isn't it? I watched an interview with the two of them (one of the sidebar videos next to this one) and learned more about this father and son. When Rick the son was born with cerebral palsy, his parents decided to ensure that he would be included in EVERYTHING his brothers were involved in.....they would adapt the environment so that Rick could join in. When Rick was 12 or so, technology finally caught up and a computer system was created for him. All of a sudden, he could communicate. Unbeknownst to most of the people in his life, Rick was very intelligent.....just couldn't communicate his thoughts. Once he had his communication board, he was off to the races.....and managed to graduate with a DEGREE from Boston University!!

His father, who wasn't a tri-athlete at all decided to enter a race with Rick when Rick told him his interest in a cross country race at his school. Rick told his father that racing made him feel like he wasn't disabled anymore.....it was free-ing..... Since then, they have entered 25 Boston Marathons and numerous triathlons together!!

I was a wet mop after watching this.

You're so right Tori.....this is LIFE

I popped over from Gypsy's after she bestowed on you a very appropriate award.

I must say this was very touching and reached me as I have been struggling and floundering recently in my own struggles with Multiple Sclerosis.

Thank you for sharing and inspiring. I will be returning---you already had one thing in your favor before I got here---a recommendation from Gypsy.
