Glads

The wind chill today is -15. No one seemed prepared for it. Though everyone was bundled up, their body language told another story...........it was like the cold wind chilled them right to the core. People were all hunched over and not looking very happy when I was out at lunchtime walking downtown. Drudgery, and pinched faces. No one seemed to be walking with a bounce in their step that's for sure.

Our Canadian winter skins have not formed yet. I think it's the transition from balmy fall days to bitter cold winds during November that bites more rabidly than an expected winter day in January. Perhaps its because we still have clear visions of harvesting produce and flowers from the gardens. Once January rolls around we are simply thinking about bulbs and seeds and new growth.

today we still mourn the loss of colour.......and wish the glads would bloom bright red again.

don't you just love red?
I would say it's my defining colour. What's yours?

I LOVE red - it's such a vibrant, passionate colour. I just wrote a post yesterday about a beautiful red dress I bought for a high school reunion that's coming up soon. I'm dying to wear it because it made me feel alive and very womanly....ha, ha.

Btw, Dame Edna would love those glads.

Hey Gypsy.......confession time. I read your post on your beautiful new red dress and decided to post my red Glads......and it was serendipitous that you should be the first to find it and to comment! The glads are for you and Dame Edna. :)

Awareness - Yup that wind is kicking butt! It kind of goes right through ya! Not used to this yet. Philly didn't get this cold this quick. My favorite color is Kelly Green. Like my football team the Eagles. :)

Stay warm!

Hey Neo......Looks like it's warmin up again today...well slightly. I think this is why this time of year is so difficult.....it never can make up it's mind.

My eyes are kelly green. :)

The darkness, devoid of color, that comes with winter always makes us long for the restoration which comes in spring...oh, and the cold temperatures too :)

You are so right, we are losing the color. I hadn't thought about that... but that's why I come here.

:-)

I noticed some small red blooms on a winter plant in my yard this morning and actually stopped to look at them for a moment.

Mine is black - I know, it's cliched, but actually since I became an adult it is the colour I feel most at home wearing, most of the time. I'm told bright colours are best for me though, and sometimes I believe it and enjoy wearing them.

Dustin....you're so right. I always like to have at least one bouquet or potted mum plant in the house for colour....in the dead of winter? I buy tulips! I have dried hydrangea from my garden that are on my mantel and a big bouquet of light purple heather picked by the shoreline last summer. It all helps. I couldn't go long without colour.

Hey Anon......maybe once a week throughout the winter I will post a brightly coloured blooming shot just to perk things up around here. Glad to see again.

Caroline...I actually wear a lot of black too, but most of the time I'll splash it with a bright scarf or something.....I find that if I'm feeling down especially, a little colour does make me somehow feel better. take care.

I like red if I am in the mood for it. My favourite colour is purple. Or a shade of it Don't know the name in english. My mum always asks me Why didn't you move to Cananda. It's much closer. Oh canada is beautiful but the cold...

Tori...a ruby engagement ring?? how wonderful! I think I'd like ruby slippers for Christmas.....or at least ruby red fuzzy socks.

Marja....yes, it is pretty cold here right now, but somehow we all get used to it. People are acclimatized yet and it shows! But, by the time the REAL cold kicks in, we're all bundled up and ready to deal with life as it unfolds......well, except people who live in Toronto. They are wussies.

I love red, too, but green is my signature. The color of life itself!
