Liminality

suspended between the blue shaded darkness
where light awaits on the threshold of time
liminal time
open ambiguity of the unknown
under the clock stars of night

straddled illusions resting in sleeping dreams
where reality of daylight awaits on the platform
behind the horizon
to take centre stage
in a fire of colour bursting up into the sky
Between now and then

meditative silence surrounds whispered hopes
streams of relaxing thoughts stir slowly
culminating in breath focused anticipation
birthing transition
liminal thresholding
blood and sweat pushing
of new life
fear and excitement collide
through the barrier of dreams
where blue shades fade into the light of a new day.
now becomes then.......becomes now.

and it begins with a healthy cry
and it begins with a relief sounding sigh
and it begins with a heart melting high.

new life craddled in dreams.

Very concise writing. There are no extra words here. Love the "clock stars"!

new life craddled in dreams.

I work a great deal with mothers and new babies, and this really touched my heart.

What a beautiful moving poem! These next 3 lines really got to me-
"and it begins with a healthy cry
and it begins with a relief sounding sigh
and it begins with a heart melting high."
( I see someone else quoted them as well)
You need to put these lines to music! I hear a song a brewing! BEAUTIFUL! 'heart melting high is exactly what us moms feel!" thanks for sharing it. :)

Robin....thank you. I was trying to describe that transitional feeling during labour, which for me was a clear memorable turning point ......probably because I was nauseaus and wasn't expecting that AT ALL! Once that feeling left, there was a more honed in focus on the task at hand....determination and energy kicked in even though at one point I thought I was going to completely run out of steam.

And then the RELIEF after my daughter was born........

I'm glad you liked it.

Lucy.....it was amazing to me how quickly that feeling occured. It was spontaneous as they put my daughter on my chest.....

littlewing. I heard an interview last week on the radio....a scientist discussing the moment between night and day.....liminal....I never knew there was such a word/label. It stuck. So when I saw the prompt, my thoughts went automatically back to that word and wanted to use it......as a way to describe what is found between "now and then"

Katie....am glad you liked it. The photo was taken off my back deck....a sunrise over the river about a month ago.
