bird of paradise, green village, march 2007

To think that this exotic bird of paradise

is considered ordinary in other parts of the world.

It's all in how we perceive things, isn't it?

I love using them in arrangements, but occasionally they come to me un-opened, and I have to pull the blossom out of the sheath. It requires me to slide my finger between the folds of the green sheath and down under the sections of blossom, so I can lift them out. Doing so make my finger slippery with the viscous liquid inside - and I always feel as if I am doing something forbidden and a little naughty.....LOL

I've got that plant right outside my home-office window. I get blooms all the time! It's a big plant, right by my little decorative pond with my two little decorative gold fish. Well, not so little anymore, they're the last two survivors of about 20 cheap "feeder fish" I put in there months ago.

Thanks for your recent comment on my last post... it meant a lot.

Judy....while reading your description, I was thinking....eewwweeee......that sounds a bit naughty. They do make the most interesting arrangements.

Mike.....definately the difference between my climate and yours! There's no way in a million years I could look out my window and see these beauties blooming.
OH, and Mike? I'm so glad you're out there....... :)
