prisms

We look at life through the prism of our own design made up of the reflections of others in our lives, the defections of the illusions we tend to hold onto way past their due date, and of the corrections we try to assume when awareness awakens reality. It makes me wonder how we manage to understand each other at all.
"But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads,
they say Ive changed
Well somethings lost,
but somethings gained
In living every day
Ive looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
Its lifes illusions I recall
I really dont know life at all"
joni mitchell

Perhaps it is through music and poetry, through pictures and paintings, through the colour we splash on and around ourselves which help us see that our prisms may not be as different as meets the eye.

Indeed, Indeed..! I Love this and I Love Joni, too....! It's all a big mystery sometimes, isn't it?
Oh My!

Thanks so much for your comment on my post about Jan Clayton....That evening was an Amazing Evening in every way....And the most Amazing part of it was the way Jan Clayton soldiered on....That kind of professionalism and the "X" factor combined....Well, it was something to see, given my childhood history of seeing her on Broadway in two enormously successful shows. And admiring her talent so much much....this was her last Hurrah, so to speak....It was enormously touching and so incredibly wonderful! So happy that you were touched by it all, too.

Our vision is so simple yet so complicated. Great food for thought!

Tara....and Hallelujah too!

Naomi....I plan to go through your archives and read your stories. I am loving them.....! Our Life stories are the best gifts we can share with one another, dont you think?

Life is the most interesting mystery novel of all time. Let's hope the ending is a mind blowing event!!

I heard a version of Both Sides Now sung by Joni Mitchell recently and it blew me away......such a different sound and wistfulness than when she first recorded it. I find it to be one of the most powerfully moving songs ever. I wasn't a huge fan of hers when I was young. but, when I hear her now, or read her poetic lyrics I am blown away by her brilliance. What an unbelievably talented human being.

Mark....I think it is too. When I took this picture (it's a bowl made up of dark blue tiles) I was surprised at how a simple dark blue bowl turned into a multi-faced multi-coloured reflection. Every time I looked at the picture, I thought of how we tend to think that our vision is simple straight forward etc.....which if we take time to consider is really only surface vision. When we take the time to really use our "vision" it is much more complicated, much more colourful, much more varied and much more difficult to define or to label.
does that make sense?? :)

Marja...thank you. I wanted to keep it succinct, though in the end I felt compelled to add Joni's lyrics because they were stirred up in my head while I was writing and trying to find my own words.
