Winter Thaw

Cruel winds hover under a late winter sky
Wild winged birds drafting with pride
Gnarled knuckled trees vacantly breathe
One last icy gasp
A tired sigh
Of whispered hope
and persistance

Blue agate river sheened in amethyst ice
Slumbering stark islands bracing sharp nights
Impatient currents wave undulating sound
Dip and go
Hesitant flow
Of whispered hope
and persistance.
